Checking & Filling Your Transmission Oil

(Manual Transmissions ONLY)

TOOLS REQUIRED:

1 - 17mm Allen wrench.

1 - Manual oil pump (NOT required, but it sure makes filling easier and less messy).

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 - Qt. of gear oil 80W90 (or whatever grade you currently run).

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Park your vehicle onto a flat surface.

2.  Remove the transmission servicing plug in the middle of the left hand side of the transmission case with the 17mm Allen wrench.

TIP:  If you don't have a 17mm Allen wrench, you can use an old bolt with a couple of nuts.  Just take any bolt with a 17mm head and thread on two (2) nuts part-way down and lock them together.  Viola!!  A 17mm service plug remover!!

3.   Place the end of the pump filling tube into the service hole and SLOWLY pump oil until it runs out.  Let it sit for a minute to allow the thick oil to settle.  Then resume pumping until it seeps out again.  Now it's full.

TIP:  Since the gear oil is hard to pump when it's cold and thick, you may want to warm it up first by letting your oil bottle sit in a bucket of warm tap water for 15 -  20 minutes.  This will thin it making it MUCH easier to pump.

4.  Replace the service plug with the 17mm Allen wrench and snug it down.  The threads are tapered so be sure not to muscle it too much or you could crack the case.
