Replacing Your Brake Light Switch(s)
TOOLS REQUIRED:
1 - Adjustable wrench
PARTS REQUIRED:
New brake light switch(s)
INSTRUCTIONS:
WARNING - You MUST bleed the brake system after completing this job; prior to driving the vehicle. You WILL introduce air into the brake system that MUST be purged or your brakes could fail. If you don't have the necessary tools or don't think you can accomplish this yourself, don't break into the brake system. and leave it to a competent professional.
1. Remove the wires on the switch noting where each wire goes. You could also mark each wire with tape to aid in replacing them.
2. With the adjustable wrench, remove the old switch. Depending on what year of VW you have, you will have one (1) or two (2) of these switches. When they are removed, discard them so you're NOT tempted to reuse them in the future.
3. Take the new switch(s) and drip brake fluid into the small opening in the end to pre-fill the switch with fluid. This will help when bleeding is done and you'll be glad you did.
4. Screw the new switch and snug them into place with the adjustable wrench. DO NOT over tighten these. They need to be good and snug, but not tight.
5. Re-attach wires.
