Replacing Your Distributor Cap, Rotor & Plug Wires
TOOLS REQUIRED:
NONE
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 - Distributor Cap
1 - Rotor
1 - Set of plug wires.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. With the plug wires STILL IN PLACE, pry off the two (2) clips which hold on the distributor cap to the distributor body and move the cap to the side; out of the way.
2. Remove the old rotor from the distributor shaft and throw it away. Replace this with the NEW rotor.
3. Place the NEW distributor cap onto the distributor body and clip it into place with the two retaining clips.
WARNING - Always replace plug wires ONE AT A TIME so that you don't risk getting wires going to the wrong cylinders and your engine not running.
NOTE - The following steps 4 & 5 are for one (1) plug wire. These steps will have to be repeated for the other 3 plug wires as well as the coil wire.
4. Remove one plug wire from the old cap and unclip it from the clips which hold it to the fan shroud. Un-plug it from the spark plug and match that wire with a NEW one of the same length.
5. Plug the NEW wire into the spark plug and then clip it into the clips on the fan shroud. Now plug it into the same corresponding plug on the NEW distributor cap.
