Changing Your Air Cleaner Oil Or Paper Element

 

TOOLS REQUIRED:

1 - Screw driver (maybe)

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 - Quart of motor oil (if equipped with an oil bath air cleaner).

1 - Paper air filter element (if equipped with a paper type element).

INSTRUCTIONS

OIL BATH AIR CLEANERS

1.   Loosen clamps for the crank case breather hose on the oil filler tower and remove this hose.  Also disconnect any other vacuum hoses 7 pre-heat hoses going to the air cleaner assembly and note their location so that they go get reconnected correctly when finished.

2.  Loosen the clamp at the base of the air cleaner which holds it onto the carburetor and carefully remove the air cleaner assembly.

3.  Un-clip the retaining clips which hold the top onto the base and separate the two pieces.

4.  Pour old, dirty oil out of the base of the air cleaner assembly and wipe it out with a rag.

5.  Re-fill the air cleaner base with oil up to the RED painted line.  This line is about 1/2" or so above the bottom of the air cleaner base.

6.  Replace the top and re-clip the clips.

7.  Replace the assembly onto the top of the carburetor and tighten the clamp.

8.  Replace the vacuum, pre-heat and breather hoses and tighten any clamps.

 

AIR CLEANERS W/ PAPER ELEMENTS

1.  Un-clip the the clips that hold the black plastic top to the plastic base and separate the top from the base.

2.  Remove the old, dirty paper element from base.

3.  Install the NEW paper element into the base.

4.  Replace the top onto the base and re-clip the retaining clips.
